Vera was such a wonderful person. Vera and my Dad (Fred) both had something very special built into them that is difficult to exactly identify, or even be very specific about. They were both very special people as individuals, but they also shared a very special understanding of what makes the world go round and how to communicate with either pauper or king. To them it was easy, take a big slice of compassion, add a little bit of wisdom and a big helping of fun, stir well and dish it out with a twinkle in the eye smile that could light up the world.

During the 1940s, '50s and '60s, my family spent yearly holidays at Sheerness, Kent, England, with my Aunt. Vera's mother must have been her sister-in-law and I have great memories of Vera and her family. Theirs was a close-knit family and Vera was a loving and caring mother. We were always welcomed and their warmth and friendship helped to make our holidays memorable.

How lucky was I to have had Vera in my life; there was always her smile to welcome me and then we would share a cup of tea and I'd tell her my news. Sadly my sorrow can not be avoided but she has left me with so many wonderful memories and I know that she would much prefer that I smiled for her today and always. Di xx

When she visited Canada, she and I would go for walks together to pick the wildflowers. I really felt she was not only listening to what I had to say, but also made me feel my views were important to her.

I will always remember how Nan was so genuinely happy to see you, she would enjoy every moment of experiences happening around her.

Nan always had a smile for the people around her even when she wasn't feeling the best. Sometimes it was pure sunlight, other times mischief hinted through.
