I was led to this site when something prompted me to look up Lindsay Aked. The fact that it is 40 years since I was a member of the Combined Secondary Schools Orchestra he conducted is some indication of the lasting impression he made on my life. I think of him often. Some of those who were privileged to be part of that group became some of today's foremost professional musicians. But Lindsay Aked was not aiming to produce the country's best practitioners. Rather he wanted others to share his love of music and carry that love forward into the lives of their children. Lindsay Aked had a generous and inspiring spirit, a great gift for speaking and a particular talent for teaching music.

1999... a beautiful song cycle for children to perform, especially when accompanied on piano by the composer himself. Thank you, Mr Aked, for your music and your generosity from the generations of school children who have benefited from your input as teacher, composer, mentor.

A humble man, a talented composer, an all-round nice bloke. Lindsay made a tremendous contribution to music education in NSW. He was my Inspector in the 60s and generous with his help and support through many years of teaching. I hope some of his many unpublished works will be published in his memory. Children really enjoyed performing his music and I loved to teach, play and conduct his songs, especially 'Spectrum'. Thanks Lindsay for your inspiration and guidance.

I'll never forget my Uncle Linsday. He gave me a brief 2 minute lecture - when I was about 12 - while camping with the Aked's up in the Grawin opal fields. He taught me why fire engines are red. He was probably the first adult I had ever met that liked the Goons. Rest in peace. I'm sure there must be many happy memories for Val, Merelyn, and Brett. Best wishes from Lance and family.
